Folkways put out an open invitation to community members to participate in a community conversation on the issues and topics that were important to them. 45 attendees gathered at the public library to spend over 3 hours connecting and sharing their ideas for our community.

OPEN SPACE

With the help of the Folkways team, Jerry Nagel from the Meadowlark Institute facilitated the conversations using a format called Open Space. This method allows for large groups to have impactful conversations where everyone has a chance to participate. In Open Space, any participants are invited to call their own topics to host a conversation.

17 different groups formed over two sessions with participants flowing in and out of the conversations of their choice. Each table’s host documented important notes from the conversation.

After reading notes from each topic, four categories emerged: Creating an Inclusive Community, Supporting Entrepreneurs, Urban Development and Environmental Stewardship, and Advocacy.
